Fall into the Methow 10/12/2009
Fall has come to the Methow Valley and I wish I had the photos to do it justice. This morning it is 30 degrees, but sunny and gloriously clear. The bunchgrasses and aspen leaves are turning yellow, and cold-flushed apples draw bears to the trees. The pre-sunset “golden hour” lasts all day.

Beyond sex 10/07/2009
My friend Dr. Jennifer Freed is the host of a radio program called FREED UP! on VoiceAmerica.com. Today she interviewed Mama Gena, founder of Mama Gena’s School of Womanly Arts (http://www.mamagenas.com/), which “trains women of all ages to use the power of pleasure to have their way with the world.” Mama Gena’s premise seems to be that women’s sexual pleasure is the potential driver of creative change in the world. From the photos of ecstatic, empowered, fun-experiencing women on her website, it appears that Mama Gena is on to something. Something I don’t get.

God the good sends warnings 10/01/2009
On Tuesday a tsunami hit the Samoan Islands. Today a guest columnist for the NY Times, Fia Sigiel, wrote the following account of her uncle Opi's attempt to warn four elderly women of impending danger. His warning fell on deaf ears. The women laughed and waved, "Have faith, Opi! God is good!"
