Pastels from a peaceful place 07/05/2010
I'm having my first art show on Thursday, August 5, at Eden, a home decor store at 17 W. Ortega Street in Santa Barbara! If you were in my one and only high school art class, you'd know what a surprising development that is. As many of you do know, I'm a largely self-taught artist who started by drawing pictures on my sons' lunch bags....until they got to junior high and asked me to stop. When I moved back to Santa Barbara, my husband Micheal encouraged me to explore other media (ya think?) and introduced me to pastels.
This show will include a variety of styles and subject matter, but the unifying theme is the peace that painting offers me. It comes out of a non-linear part of my brain--a place where I can simply be with the scene before me, or the images in my mind, and try to express the feelings they give me through color and form. The feelings are wonder...appreciation...gratitude. The show will last through the month of August, but the opening is from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 5. I hope you can join me!

Your oil pastel, July 5.10 is beautiful. Says my art teacher husband "She has a good sense of form and color."
