Twenty seven days of transformative change 03/02/2010
Today I start my second "Twenty-Seven Days of Transformative Change" mindfulness practice with the Center for Transformative Change. I've made a commitment to myself to give selfless service, reduce harm, reclaim difficult relationships, choose life every day, be disciplined in my meditation practice, and "dissolve all ideas of who is doing practice, who practice is done for, and practice that is done." In other words, I practice for practice sake, indifferent to results. My selfless service practice is to spend at least three hours a week rallying local progressives on behalf of foreign and domestic policies that are compassionate, sustainable, and just. My reducing harm practice is to bring attention to "truthfulness and right speech," and to eat meat no more than once a day. My reclaiming relationship practice is to be willing to engage in conversation with passersby during my weekly anti-war protest and remain curious about the feelings of those who disagree with me. My "choosing life every day" (staying awake) practice is to refrain from alcohol consumption. A more difficult commitment is to keeping my desk clean. The most difficult one (which I didn't make; maybe next time) would be to limit the number of times I check my email daily. My meditation practice is 20 minutes in the morning, noon, and evening. My overall personal intention for the 27 days is to cultivate nearly palpable awareness of the field of Conscious Intelligence in which we are embedded. And from that consciousness to live accordingly. I'll keep you posted.
